Hello Boatmik ....
Many thanks for your support and related PM on adjusting my new RSS GIS Sail .
I am still on the learning curve on how to handle/ajust/optimize my new GIS-Rocket...on many sea conditions.
I hope to post here some others pics of TAKKA sailing with her new "dress" after our Bateaubois meeting/messabout at the end of this month.
The best to You and to all the RSS staff.

Bonjour
Howdy!
I am trying to post this on the end of your Goat Island Skiff forum thread.
Boat looks super. I do like the classique top to the stem!

This is what I was trying to post!
Hello Jib1!
Congratulations on your boat!
Can I make some suggestions about the sail. I am the designer.
There is too much tension along the yard. The crease in the sail cloth should only be about 1/3 as strong.
There is also too much tension along the foot of the sail. It should look like this.
Image
If you are lacing the foot to the boom using the eyelets the sail should look like the photo above before the eyelets are laced.
I suggest you try the halyard system on this page http://www.storerboatplans.com/GIS/GISRigging.html . it works very well. It never jams, friction is low also the yard stays at the correct angle when the sail is going It also makes reefing easier.
Image
Congratulations on such a nice looking boat.
C'est tout.

Le monsieur a dit :
There is too much tension along the yard.
There is also too much tension along the foot of the sail.

Bonjour,

Yes ... thankyou for the correction.

Too much sailcloth tension along the yard. Lashings need to be eased so the crease is about 1/3 the depth.

I cannot post links or photos as I don't have a large enough number of posts on the forum yet.

I shall return in a moment.

I have returned. I think with this post I can post a link to a photo.

This is the first sail sold and on a customer's boat. It is an identical shape to yours JIBI

The foot is quite loose to give power near the boom. Also gives a small amount of weather helm.

The sail can be used loose foot or using the five eyelets along the foot to lace to the boom. If the sail is laced the shape of the bottom of the sail should be like the photo before the lacing is added.

And here the image

or see the photo here https://www.flickr.com/photos/boatmik/1 ... 2/sizes/m/

Best wishes

Hello Boatmik
The sail-and-oar community on this forum is avidely following the "ups-and-downs" of rigging TAKKA.
Many thanks for yours posts on necessary corrections....and time spent.
I am pretty sure, some (= many, many !) more comments will fly around during our soon-to-come messabout (in l'Ile aux moines -Morbihan, hosted by Alien , winner of the Duckworks plans contest with his pram ALIEN III in 2008).
Your picture of Daniel C. is right on spot.I did not feel I should have posted it , since it is copyrighted.
I shall report back with fresh pics after our meeting.
The best to you.

JIBI a écrit :Bonsoir
@TO
